Carlo Ancelotti: I Dream of Coaching Liverpool FC

The legendary Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, who led Chelsea to a Premier League title in 2009/10 and enjoyed high-profile stints at PSG, Bayern Munich, and Napoli, made the shocking admission during an interview with RSI.

“My dream was to coach Liverpool,” Ancelotti said. “But then I found myself at Everton and experienced their rivalry. Now I’m absolutely an Everton fan.”

Ancelotti signed with Everton in 2019, a move that stunned the football world, and spent 18 months with the Toffees before returning to Madrid. His time on Merseyside, however, made a lasting impact.

“I really liked the environment,” he added. “There’s a spectacular passion for the colours, and you can feel the pain fans have because of Liverpool, who’ve been the best in the Premier League for many years.”

Throughout his career, Ancelotti has clashed with Liverpool 20 times, including the infamous 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul, where his AC Milan team lost on penalties after leading 3-0 at halftime. He later got revenge in the 2007 final — one of his 11 wins over the Reds.

Now, with his future at Real Madrid uncertain following a disappointing season and strong rumors linking Xabi Alonso to the top job, Ancelotti’s coaching path could take another twist. But whether it leads him to finally fulfill his Liverpool dream — or face them once again — remains to be seen
