Why Felix Afena Gyan is the New Eto’o

The lethal striker has been hailed for recent prowess in the Italian Seria A with some indicating why he is the new Samuel Eto

Felix Afena Gyan agent has indicated similar qualities the striker shares with Barcelona and Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o.

The 18-year-old Ghanaian came into the spotlight by scoring his first two Serie A goals in a 15-minute cameo to lead AS Roma into a 2-0 win over Genoa.

His exploits have earned praise from Giallorossi manager Jose Mourinho, who bought him new €800 boots.

Now Felix Afena Gyan agent, Oliver Arthur, has compared the youngster to another African who once starred under Mourinho at Serie A rivals Inter Milan.

“Because of his physical structure, power and speed, Felix Afena Gyan looks like Eto’o, but we must tread carefully,” he told Tele Radio Stereo.

Why Felix Afena Gyan missed his first call up?

The teenage star couldn’t accept a first senior call-up to the Ghana national team during the last international break due to hurdles encountered with documentation.

“There were no problems, everything was slowed down by the bureaucratic difficulties related to the documents that Rome had to send to Ghana to keep the boy in Italy,” Arthur explained.

“Felix Afena Gyan is happy with the call, but he doesn’t want it to be a one-off. He wants to train and grow to be part of the Ghana national team permanently. He is loved in Africa and everybody speaks about him. Everyone wants to interview him.”

He was recently cautioned by Jose Mourinho after the youngster went clubbing after a game. The AS ROMA manager took that seriously because of his age and sent him back to the youth team as a way of reprimanding Afena Gyan. He was later called into the first team and spoken to.
