Mayor Ebi Bright Moves to Reclaim Tema Stolen Lands
Restoring Order and Purpose to Tema’s Future

With a vision of bold leadership and community-focused governance, Mayor Ebi Bright of Tema Metropolis (TMA) is taking strong and deliberate action to recover public lands that have been unlawfully taken over by private individuals and unauthorized developers.
Last Thursday, Mayor Bright with the Greater Accra Regional Minister and a united team from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC). Alongside them were committed officers from Physical Planning, Works, Environmental Health, NADMO, and the Municipal Task Force, all walking through key Ramsar sites in Tema to assess the growing problem of land encroachment.

What they encountered was deeply concerning. Lands originally reserved for schools, clinics, and green community spaces had been hijacked by illegal containers, kiosks, and buildings. Many without permits, all in complete violation of Tema’s city planning layout.
Mayor Ebi Bright made it unequivocally clear that “This is Not About Demolition for Demolition’s Sake.”
“This is not about demolishing structures just for the sake of it. It’s about restoring order and protecting what rightfully belongs to all of us.”
This powerful message resonated not only with the RCC team but also with residents across Tema and beyond who have long demanded greater land accountability and urban planning enforcement.
Tema was not built on disorder. It was designed with clear vision and purpose. Every plot of land had a role, be it educational, health-focused, recreational, or residential. To allow illegal developments to persist is to slowly dismantle the very foundation of that vision.
A New Era of Leadership in Tema
What makes Mayor Bright’s approach noteworthy is that this is not a one-off operation. It marks the beginning of a sustained and proactive movement to restore and protect Tema’s development blueprint. Through regular monitoring, firm enforcement, and public education, her administration is championing a renewed culture of civic discipline and infrastructure protection.
The message is clear: Tema must work and it will.
“We will reclaim our spaces. We will protect the plan. And we will do it together, for Tema.” — Ebi Bright
With those words, the mayor reaffirms her commitment to inclusive governance, where residents, planners, and authorities cooperate to build a better, safer, and more organized city.
Tema’s transformation under Mayor Bright’s leadership is more than a municipal effort; it’s a national example of how local governance can work efficiently for the people. As Ghana faces increasing urban pressure and land disputes, the firm steps being taken in Tema offer a blueprint for reclaiming public resources, enforcing city laws, and ensuring responsible land use.
By safeguarding public lands today, Mayor Ebi Bright is securing the future of education, healthcare, and green development for generations to come. This is what visionary leadership looks like.
The Way of Accountability and Unity For All
Residents of Tema are encouraged to support this initiative by:

-
Respecting zoning regulations and land-use directives
-
Participating in community clean-ups and civic discussions
-
Holding all stakeholders, including local leaders, accountable
Mayor Bright has once again proven that transformational leadership starts with action. By leading from the front, she is ensuring that Tema becomes a model city not only in Ghana but across West Africa.
At GHPARROT, we proudly salute her boldness, clarity of purpose, and dedication to the public good.
