Tema Police Detain Suspected Member of Narcotics Syndicate

Officers from the Tema Regional Police Command have taken into custody a man believed to be part of a narcotics distribution network. The suspect, identified as Francis Alidu, was arrested on Friday, October 31, 2025, at around 9:10 pm under the provisions of Section 37(1) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019) for unlawful possession of controlled narcotic substances.

According to a statement issued by Assistant Superintendent of Police Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, the Ashaiman District Command received intelligence from the Ho Regional Police Command indicating that a commercial bus driver had been apprehended with quantities of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The driver had reportedly arranged delivery of the consignment to a receiver in Ashaiman.
Following the lead, the police traced the receiver Francis Alidu to his hideout in Ashaiman and arrested him. During interrogation, he allegedly received a call from another commercial driver who informed him that a sack of cassava had been dropped off for him to collect in front of the KFC branch in Ashaiman.
Police moved in promptly and retrieved the sack. A search in Alidu’s presence revealed 18 compressed slabs believed to be Indian hemp hidden inside the cassava.
Alidu is now assisting the Tema police in identifying other suspects who were named during his questioning. He will be handed over to the Ho Regional Police for further investigations.
