The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) has strongly denounced an altercation involving its emergency ward staff and a group that included a well-known social media activist. The incident, captured in a viral video, allegedly stemmed from delays in treating a critically injured patient and escalated into verbal aggression and the physical assault of a nurse. Hospital authorities were forced to summon the Ghana Police Service to restore order.

In an official statement signed by Public Relations Head Juliana Hariwa, the hospital confirmed the incident occurred while clinicians were handling multiple emergencies. According to the statement, relatives and friends of accident victims “invaded the emergency triage,” disrupting operations and creating tension.
“Their overwhelming presence hindered patient care, caused undue stress, and even endangered our medical staff,” the statement read. The hospital condemned the assault as “unacceptable,” warning that such actions “compromise lives.”
While reaffirming its commitment to “timely, quality healthcare,” Ridge Hospital also cautioned the public against unauthorized filming in clinical areas, citing patient privacy concerns. Though the statement did not directly address the activist’s negligence claims, it emphasized the need for “cooperation and mutual respect” to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
