It had been reported some few weeks ago that, the ace Ghanaian actor was suffering from stroke and was undergoing treatment at a health facility.
Kohwe made his challenges known to the former Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture that he was struggling financially to keep up.
With the Minister and a group called Cape-Coast Ogua and other People, items and monies was donated to the veteran actor.
He was one the leading frontiers in the early days of Ghanaian drama and theater films.
He brought joy to the various households across the length and breadth of Ghana.
He co-acted with other veterans in the Ghanaian film industry with the likes of David Dontor, Grace Nortey, etc.
Kohwe is known for his sterling roles in the Akan Drama series and the popular ‘District Colonial Court.
Ghanaian actors / actresses who have paid their dues in service to the industry often find themselves in this sad situation in their old age.
The question we pose to our readers is that,
- Does the Ghanaian Film Industry support actors / actresses with any form of royalties for works done over the years?
2. Is there any form of welfare scheme available for them in times like this?
Obviously some of these things can be avoided should the needed healthcare management and support be provided.
There should be a proper stakeholder discussion, policy formulation and its implementation to prevent things of this nature from occurring again in the nearest future.
God bless our homeland Ghana and all actors and actresses.
