GCB Bank Pushes for Direct TikTok Payouts in Ghana

GCB Bank has announced plans to become the official payment gateway for Ghanaian TikTok creators, aiming to simplify how they receive earnings from the platform.
Led by Chief of Staff Abraham Ferguson, a delegation from the bank met with the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, to discuss a partnership that would create a transparent payment system for local creators.

Mr. Ferguson highlighted that GCB’s infrastructure already connects with MasterCard, Visa, mobile money, and direct bank transfers, making it capable of handling payouts quickly and securely. He explained that this system would eliminate costly intermediaries, allowing creators to keep more of their income from TikTok gifts and monetisation streams.
Minister Nartey George welcomed the move, stressing that a reliable local payment channel would boost Ghana’s digital economy and ensure creators benefit fully from their talent. He further engaged TikTok’s West Africa representative, Ms. Tokumbo Ibrahim, who noted the platform’s openness to exploring the proposal within regulatory guidelines.
Mr. Ferguson added that if TikTok agrees, GCB is ready to begin technical integration immediately to formalise a direct payout framework.
If successful, the initiative could position Ghana as a leader in Africa’s creator economy while giving TikTok users a fairer and faster way to access their earnings.
