
A 20-year-old man, Mohammed Bello, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labor for his involvement in a violent highway robbery on the Kasoa-Winneba road, near Gomoa Buduatta.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, July 6, 2025, when Bello and four unidentified accomplices—who remain at large—allegedly attacked several drivers and passengers at Dabayin Junction. The group reportedly made away with various valuables, including mobile phones, electronic devices, personal belongings, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
According to the Central East Regional Police Command, Bello was arrested while attempting to escape from the crime scene. Upon his arrest, he was found with GH¢3,740 in cash, two Samsung smartphones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, an Itel power bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a charger head, and a pair of sandals—later identified by one of the victims.

Bello appeared before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, and pleaded guilty to charges of robbery. He was immediately sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labor.
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the four other suspects, who remain on the run. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to arrest and prosecute them.
The Central East Regional Police Command urges anyone with information about the suspects to come forward to assist in bringing them to justice.
