BECE 2025: How to Calculate Aggregates for SHS Placement

GES has also urged all candidates, parents, and schools to verify and confirm their school choices on the CSSPS portal before the September 8, 2025 deadline.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, GES Public Relations Officer, Mr. Daniel Fenyi, noted that the CSSPS portal is active and available via www.cssps.gov.gh/hub/login. He encouraged candidates to log in and confirm their details to prevent challenges during placement.
How BECE Aggregates Are Calculated Now
According to GES, the formula for calculating aggregates is:
-
Add grades from the four core subjects:
-
English Language
-
Mathematics
-
Integrated Science
-
Social Studies
-
-
Add the best two subjects from the remaining results.
This method has been the standard CSSPS placement formula for years. While raw scores remain the main factor for placement, the aggregate score is critical in determining which SHS candidates are admitted into.
Example of BECE Aggregate Calculation
Candidate’s Results:
-
English Language – Grade 2
-
Mathematics – Grade 3
-
Integrated Science – Grade 2
-
Social Studies – Grade 3
-
ICT – Grade 2
-
Religious and Moral Education (RME) – Grade 1
-
BDT – Grade 4
Step 1: Core subjects
English (2) + Mathematics (3) + Science (2) + Social Studies (3) = 10
Step 2: Best two subjects
RME (1) + ICT (2) = 3
Step 3: Total aggregate
Core (10) + Best two (3) = Aggregate 13
Support for Candidates
GES assured candidates and parents that the CSSPS support team is available 24/7 to provide assistance.
Students who discover mistakes in their details or school choices can use the “Message” option on the portal to report them. Feedback will also be used to improve the placement system.
The CSSPS portal will close on September 8, 2025, after which final placements will be processed based on the confirmed data.
