The National Service Authority (NSA) has begun consultations with the Ghana Armed Forces to launch a new initiative—the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP)—which will see all National Service Personnel (NSPs) undergo basic military training starting August 2025.

This development follows a high-level meeting between the NSA and the Military High Command on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The initiative is a key part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision to promote discipline, patriotism, and physical fitness among Ghanaian youth, particularly university graduates.

President Mahama first unveiled the NSERRP during his maiden State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, where he emphasized the need to build a more resilient and committed youth force capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

NSA Director-General Felix Gyamfi, speaking at the meeting, described the programme as a bold step toward national renewal.

“The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth,” he stated.

Gyamfi confirmed that all service personnel will undergo basic military drills and orientation during their service year as part of efforts to instill discipline and a strong sense of national duty.

Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, representing the Military High Command, affirmed the Armed Forces’ full support for the programme and expressed readiness to provide the necessary training.

According to the NSA, the training—set to begin on August 3, 2025—will run for up to two months and include a comprehensive package of military drills and physical conditioning.
