The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned and distanced itself from recent death threats directed at former President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama. The party stressed that such behaviour goes against its values and principles.

NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah made the statement during a courtesy visit to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters on Wednesday, August 13. He met with NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and other executives, assuring them that the party does not support such acts.
“Sometimes, unfortunate comments come from individuals who are not even close to the party. But when they do, leadership must be clear in distancing itself. This is not the character of the NPP,” Koduah said.
He admitted that both major parties have had members or supporters make inflammatory remarks in the past but emphasized that wishing death on anyone—especially a political rival—has no place in Ghana’s democracy.
“If anything came from our side, we apologize to the NDC and His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. This is not the position of the New Patriotic Party, and we will never condone such behaviour,” he added.
His comments follow an ongoing Ghana Police Service investigation into a viral TikTok video in which a man issued threats against the Mahamas. The police confirmed that the video, widely shared on social media, contains statements considered to be life-threatening.
Two suspects, Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, have been arrested and are assisting with investigations. Authorities are still working to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the recording and sharing of the video.
Meanwhile, an Accra Circuit Court has granted Prince Ofori bail of GHS 100,000 with three sureties, two of whom must be gainfully employed. He has also been ordered to surrender his passport and return to court on August 25, 2025, as the case proceeds.
