Ghparrot.com.gh can confirm that the Medical and Dental Council has inaugurated a new governing board. The Minister for Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, inaugurated the reconstituted governing board of the Medical and Dental Council last Friday.
The 10 member board is expected to facilitate the improvement in standards of training and practice of medicine and dentistry in the country.
The board will also, among other functions, see to the effective operation of the Medical and Dental Council with regard to the regulation of the medical profession in the country.
Members
The board is chaired by Prof. Paul Kwame Nyame with Dr Divine Ndonbi Banyubala, Dr Constance Addo-Yobo, and Prof. Margaret Yaa Lartey as members.
Other members are Ms Rebecca Dede Bantey, Mrs Stella Otema Badu, Mr Mahama Asei Seini, and Mr Samuel Adjapong.
Mr Agyeman-Manu expressed delight that the inauguration, which had been long overdue due to the impact of COVID-19, was finally in place to ensure the effective running of the council to contribute to better health outcomes.
He said the current COVID-19 situation had affected the normal way of doing things and that included the timelines of inaugurating boards of public institutions, which often had a four-year term and were the foundation on which most public institutions operated smoothly.
“It was not easy getting the documentation needed to support the nominations that were made because of the disruption caused by COVID-19. The Medical and Dental Council board is the second to be inaugurated in the health sector.
”I have submitted documentation for 19 more boards to be formed. It is left with five more documentation to be submitted for approval,” he said.
He charged the board members to continue the good work their predecessors had done.

The chairman of the board, Prof. Paul Kwame Nyame, on behalf of the members, expressed his gratitude to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for the confidence reposed in them.
He assured stakeholders that the board would work to ensure that the best of standards were adhered to in the training and practice of medicine to help enhance healthcare delivery.
About the Council
The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana was established by the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857), to secure in the public interest the highest standards in the training and practice of medicine and dentistry in Ghana.
Currently, there are 8,957 Medical/Dental practitioners and 4,240 Physician Assistants/ Certified Registered Anaesthetists who are in good standing with the council according to information on the Council’s website.
