Veep Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Back From UK

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has returned to Ghana from the United Kingdom, where she had been receiving intensive medical care following a brief illness.

She was warmly received at the VIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, the Chief of Staff, and other senior government officials.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s health became a matter of public concern after she reportedly took ill on Friday, March 28, 2025. She was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day for medical attention.

A statement from the Office of the President, released on Sunday, March 30, confirmed that the Vice President had undergone the necessary treatment and would be seeking further care abroad.

Her arrival back in Ghana marks the end of her medical leave, and she is expected to resume her official duties soon.

Among those at the airport to welcome her were the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church and members of her family.

In a brief address, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed her gratitude to Ghanaians for their prayers and support. She also extended her appreciation to the medical staff at UGMC and acknowledged President Mahama and his brother Ibrahim Mahama for their care and encouragement during her recovery.

During his “Thank You” tour in Dodowa on Friday, May 16, President Mahama shared that the Vice President had made a full recovery.

“I’m happy to state that I spoke to her yesterday morning, and she will be back in the country before the end of next week. By God’s grace, she is fully recovered and she’s going to resume her duties,” the President said.

Amid earlier speculation and rumors about the Vice President’s health, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu firmly dismissed claims of her passing and assured the public that she was in stable condition.
