As videos and graphic images from the crash site flooded social media, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, issued a stern yet compassionate appeal to the public, urging Ghanaians to stop sharing distressing visuals of the tragic event.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Sam George wrote:
“I plead with you to show some restraint and decorum in these trying moments. Videos and pictures being circulated of the site are unfortunate. Let us have respect for the families of the departed and stop spreading those unwholesome videos. I beg you all to show some empathy and humanity.”
His emotional appeal struck a chord across the nation as many citizens echoed his sentiments and called for restraint in the face of tragedy. The MP’s message highlights a critical conversation about digital ethics and the emotional toll viral content can have on grieving families.
This tragic accident, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, has shaken the country to its core. The helicopter reportedly caught fire after crashing, making identification of victims difficult. National mourning has begun, and the President has directed all flags to fly at half-mast in honour of the deceased.
Sam George’s statement reminds Ghanaians that compassion should lead our actions, even in the digital age. His words restraint, empathy, and humanity are a call for national unity, respect, and dignity as the country grieves this unimaginable loss.
Let us all honor the memory of the departed by showing the very humanity they lived to protect.
