During the search, police discovered an unregistered Bruni Model 92 pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed in a passenger’s backpack.
The suspect, identified as Osman Abdul Majeed, was taken into custody after failing to provide documentation authorising possession or transport of the weapon.
In a statement issued on August 5, police said Majeed claimed during interrogation that the firearm had been given to him in Tamale by a man known only as Awal, with instructions to deliver it to an unidentified person in Tarkwa.
Majeed remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned soon.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the weapon and apprehend any accomplices.
