Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has lavished praise on new teammate Mohammed Kudus after the Ghanaian midfielder produced a dazzling debut performance in Spurs’ 3-0 win over Burnley in their Premier League opener under Thomas Frank.

Kudus, who arrived from West Ham United this summer in a £54.5 million deal, registered two assists—both for Richarlison—before Brennan Johnson wrapped up the victory in the 66th minute. The display gave Spurs the perfect start to Frank’s Premier League reign, following their narrow defeat in the UEFA Super Cup.
Richarlison’s second goal was the highlight of the evening, as he met Kudus’s cross with a spectacular overhead kick that left Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka stranded.
Speaking after the game, the Brazilian striker couldn’t hide his excitement over Kudus’s impact:
“I think this guy is a Brazilian,” Richarlison told the BBC. “I am so happy with him. Next week he needs to score because he worked so hard for the team.”
Kudus, who started on the right side of a front three alongside Richarlison and Johnson, played down the hype, giving full credit to his teammate’s finish.
“I think it was a brilliant finish. Honestly, it wasn’t the perfect cross but he made it look so good. My job is to serve the strikers, and I’m glad I could do that,” Kudus said.
Reflecting on his move to north London, the Ghana international expressed his joy at playing in a role that allows him to thrill fans.
“One of the main reasons I came here was to play the position I enjoy most, where I can entertain supporters. Football is about creating joy, but most importantly doing it at the right moments. Tonight was a good win, and we enjoyed the game,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kudus’s former club West Ham United endured a tough start to their own campaign, slumping to a 3-0 defeat against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
