President in Deep Mourning After Military Helicopter Tragedy Claims Eight Lives

Ghana is in mourning following a devastating military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, that claimed the lives of eight key public figures and military personnel. The emotional toll of the tragedy has deeply affected President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, according to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu.
Speaking to JoyNews after a solemn press briefing at the Jubilee House, the minister revealed the emotional state of the president, describing him as “emotionally down” following the loss of close colleagues and dedicated servants of the nation.
“They were en route to Obuasi to launch the Cooperative Mining Initiative when tragedy struck. We pray God grants the President and all Ghanaians the strength to bear this painful loss,” Haruna Iddrisu stated.

National Flags to Fly at Half-Mast
In an official address, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah announced that all national flags are to be flown at half-mast with immediate effect, in tribute to the departed souls.
“I have the unfortunate duty of announcing this national tragedy. Our hearts are heavy, and the President sends his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the entire nation,” Mr. Debrah said.
Investigation Underway
While the cause of the crash remains unknown at this stage, authorities have confirmed that investigations will be conducted to determine what led to the fatal incident.
