
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has opened a full-scale investigation into the tragic killing of Chief Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri.
The chief was fatally shot on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, near the Asawase F-Line community centre in Kumasi.
According to a statement from DSP Godwin Ahianyo, two unidentified gunmen approached the chief on separate motorbikes and opened fire at close range before speeding off.
Chief Azenbe was first rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where doctors sadly pronounced him dead. His remains are currently at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy.
Following the incident, high-ranking police officials, including DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, ACP Ebenezer Boyor, and a team of investigators, visited the crime scene. During the inspection, officers recovered two spent AK-47 shells, confirming the use of a high-powered weapon.
The police have vowed to track down the culprits and are calling on the public to help by sharing any relevant information. Citizens can contact the nearest police station or call 191, 18555, or 112.
