A Missing Officer and a Suspicious Meeting

At a press briefing in Accra, CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor outlined the disturbing sequence of events that began with a missing person report filed on July 4. The victim, known fondly as Otumfuo Nana, was last seen the night before, after leaving his home at Ashongman Estate to meet Aweh.

This meeting, according to investigators, followed the exchange of WhatsApp messages containing photos of cash bundles, money supposedly meant to settle an outstanding debt. Aweh later claimed that he gave Mr. Amoah GH¢500,000, instructing him to use part for debt repayment and keep the remainder. But police quickly flagged inconsistencies in Aweh’s story, leading to his arrest and initial charge of kidnapping. He was arraigned before the Kwabenya Circuit Court on July 8.

A Grisly Discovery

Just a day later, the case took a chilling twist. A charred body was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Despite the severe burns, family members identified the body as that of Mr. Amoah. Forensic testing would later confirm this, matching the remains with DNA samples taken from the officer’s mother and son.

The police recovered a number of damning pieces of evidence during their investigation. These included a bloodied fufu pestle wrapped in polythene, camouflage fabric stained with blood, and additional blood samples collected from a room in Aweh’s home, following a court-approved search on July 24.
