Safeguarding Ghana’s Lifeline
The MCE praised the Command for safeguarding Ghana’s 550-kilometre coastline, protecting vital shipping lanes that handle over 70 percent of the country’s international trade, and defending maritime resources that sustain thousands of Ghanaian families.
With Tema’s round-the-clock port operations, late-night shipping schedules, and extended fishing activities, Hon. Bright stressed that the Navy’s presence ensures uninterrupted commerce.
“As Tema embraces its destiny as a 24-hour economy, the Navy’s support remains indispensable,” she noted.
Civil-Military Collaboration
Hon. Bright also highlighted ongoing civilian-military collaboration through the Metropolitan Security Council (MESEC), including reforms in premix fuel distribution to guarantee fairness and transparency for fishing communities.
She paid heartfelt tribute to officers, ratings, and their families:
“While others sleep, you patrol our waters. While families celebrate holidays, you stand watch. This quiet professionalism deserves our deepest gratitude.”
A Shared Vision for Growth
Pledging the Assembly’s unwavering support for Commodore Asiedu-Larbi’s leadership, Hon. Bright emphasized that Tema’s dream of becoming a true 24-hour economy can only be realized with strong and sustained maritime security.
She concluded:
“Tema’s growth story cannot be written without the Navy. The Eastern Naval Command is not just our shield – it is our partner in prosperity.”
