The newly appointed Mayor of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Hon. Ebi Bright, officially began her duties yesterday, setting a purposeful tone for her administration with an active and engaging first day at the office.
Following her confirmation last Friday, Hon. Bright was warmly received at the TMA by the Metropolitan Coordinating Director, Mr John Nana Owu, and members of the senior management team. In a show of commitment and readiness, the Mayor immediately embarked on a familiarization tour of key departments within the Central Administration.
Her visit included interactions with staff from the Works Department, Physical Planning Department, Environmental Health Unit, and Procurement Unit, where she sought a firsthand understanding of operations, challenges, and capacity needs.
Demonstrating her well-known advocacy for women, children, and the marginalized, Hon. Bright extended her tour beyond the administrative block to the TMA Day Care Centre and the Health Facility at the Community Centre. These visits highlighted her people-centred leadership style and intent to ground decision-making in on-the-ground realities.
However, the tour also uncovered worrying conditions. The Mayor expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of several critical facilities, particularly the Day Care Centre and the Official Residence of the Assembly, describing them as “deplorable” and urgently needed attention.
In a debriefing session with management at the end of the tour, Hon. Bright emphasized the need for immediate and coordinated action to restore the Assembly’s infrastructure. “This firsthand experience is key as we define the direction and scope of our management agenda,” she noted. “Together, we will build a Tema that works for all.”
Her message is clear: The Time For Transformation is Now.
With her deep roots in advocacy and public service, Tema residents can expect a mayoralty focused on inclusive development, transparency, and practical reforms to restore pride in one of Ghana’s most important metropolitan areas.
As Hon. Ebi Bright settles into her new role, all eyes will be on her leadership to deliver the bold vision she has set forth for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
