rCOMSDEP BEGINS COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTS AND SITE ASSESSMENTS IN THE WESTERN NORTH REGION

On Saturday, 25th October 2025, a team from the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) led by George Dadzie Jnr., Deputy National Coordinator- Operations continued its field activities in the Western North Region with visits to key mining communities as part of efforts to promote responsible Cooperative Mining practices and viable alternative livelihoods.
The team included Kwadwo Debrah Donkor (Mining Geologist), Afriyie Owusu Bempah (Technical Head), and John Afful (Head of Communication).

The day began at Atronsu, where the team paid a courtesy call on the Chief and his elders to introduce the rCOMSDEP. The Chief expressed strong support for the initiative, after which the team conducted a site assessment of the proposed Cooperative Mining Sites.
The team proceeded to Dominase, visiting Kwakuboa and Kwabikrom where the team was warmly received by community leaders. Shortly after which brief introductions were conducted, the team conducted site assessment at the proposed areas to evaluate proposed areas for Cooperative Mining Schemes.
The visit climaxed at Sefwi Sui, a community rich in mineral resources and eager to embrace responsible mining practices. The team was warmly received by community leaders and a representative by the Municipal Chief Executive of Sefwi Wiawso, Hon. Dominic Gyasi.
Guided by Geological and technical experts, the rCOMSDEP team undertook site assessments at proposed cooperative mining areas.

The collected data will support the development of structured, environmentally responsible mining schemes aimed at creating jobs and protecting the environment.
The day concluded with a media engagement on Liberty FM (92.7) and other local radio stations, where the team discussed the objectives of rCOMSDEP and sensitized the public on the importance of responsible mining and alternative livelihood opportunities.
