Savelugu: 3 Men Arrested for Concealing Restricted Drugs in Car Tyre

In a swift night operation near Diare, a community within the Savelugu municipality in the Northern Region, police have apprehended three individuals in connection with the possession of restricted drugs and an unlicensed firearm.

The suspects Jabuni S. Mohammed, Alidu Abdul Samed, and Abdul Aziz were intercepted by a patrol unit on Sunday, August 3, 2025, along the Tamale–Bolgatanga highway.

According to the Northern Regional Police Command, the driver of a Nissan Hardbody pickup, bearing registration GN 2812–20, ignored a police checkpoint at Diare. Officers gave chase, leading to the driver abandoning the vehicle in nearby bushes in an attempt to escape. He was subsequently captured.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered a deflated spare tyre packed with 1,399 blister packs of Tafrodol 120mg a drug classified as restricted under Ghana’s pharmaceutical laws. In addition, a loaded pistol was found hidden inside the headrest of the vehicle.

Further police action led to the arrest of the two accomplices, Alidu and Abdul Aziz, who were traveling on an unregistered motorbike believed to be en route to meet Jabuni at the time of his arrest.

All three suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear before court today, Monday, August 4, 2025, to face charges related to illegal possession of restricted substances and an unlicensed weapon.
