The Ghana Health Service has confirmed twenty new cases of Mpox, bringing the country’s total number of confirmed infections to three hundred and two as of July 30, 2025.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that spreads mainly through close contact with an infected person. Health experts say it is important for the public to stay alert and report any symptoms early to help prevent further transmission.

This latest update marks a significant moment in the ongoing outbreak. Just last week, Ghana recorded its first Mpox-related death since the disease was first detected in the country. The sharp rise in confirmed cases over the past week is the highest seen in recent months and has raised concerns among public health officials.

According to the Ghana Health Service, the virus continues to spread through close physical contact, especially through skin-to-skin contact, bodily fluids, or shared items like bedding or clothing used by an infected person.

The disease typically presents with symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and a distinctive rash that may look like blisters or sores. Children, pregnant women, and people with underlying health conditions are at greater risk of serious illness.

In an earlier update released on July 22, twenty-three new cases were confirmed, pushing the total at that time to two hundred and fifty-seven. Since then, health authorities have continued to monitor the situation closely.

The Ghana Health Service is calling on the public to help stop the spread of Mpox by avoiding close contact with anyone showing symptoms, washing hands frequently, and seeking immediate medical care when symptoms appear.

“Protect yourself and your loved ones. Report any unusual rashes or signs of infection to the nearest health facility,” the Ghana Health Service said in a public notice.

Officials also stressed the importance of early detection and isolation in managing the outbreak. They are working closely with regional health directorates to trace contacts and coordinate the national response.

As part of ongoing efforts, public education campaigns are being intensified, and Ghanaians are being encouraged to rely only on verified information sources to avoid panic and misinformation.

Although most people who contract Mpox recover without complications, health professionals are taking the current increase in cases seriously, especially following the recent fatality.

The Ghana Health Service continues to urge everyone to remain calm but cautious and to cooperate fully with health authorities in the fight against the virus.
