Rashford was in electric form during Villa’s dramatic 3-2 Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain, helping them overturn a two-goal deficit to advance 5-4 on aggregate. The 27-year-old, who started ahead of Ollie Watkins, looked sharp and determined, once again reminding fans of his elite talent.
The Manchester-born forward has impressed throughout his loan spell, showcasing his versatility on both flanks and now as a central striker. Aston Villa reportedly has the option to make the move permanent for £40 million, but Rashford’s heart may still be at United.
Speaking on Amazon Prime’s Champions League coverage, Wayne Rooney expressed confidence in Rashford’s loyalty to the Red Devils.
“Marcus Rashford wants to play for Manchester United, 100%. He’s a Manchester lad and a United fan. It’s been a tough couple of years for him, and he just needed to play,” Rooney said. “Ideally, he wants to leave a legacy at United. Whether that’s possible, time will tell—but I’d love to see it.”
Rashford’s exit from the United starting XI came after tensions with current boss Ruben Amorim, whose relationship with the player reportedly deteriorated quickly.
But Rashford is not just earning praise from Rooney. Former England and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge also applauded his comeback.
“People were saying Rashford isn’t the same player—but he’s proved them wrong,” Sturridge said. “Sometimes managers don’t show you love, so you go on loan and prove a point. That’s exactly what he’s done.”
Rashford’s resurgence comes at a crucial time, not only for Villa’s European campaign but potentially for his own long-term future in football. Whether he returns to Manchester United or embarks on a new chapter remains to be seen—but one thing is clear: Marcus Rashford is far from finished.
