The Plot Before Cantonments ShootOut

Reports say the gang had checked into a hotel in Labadi, armed with AK-47 rifles, pump-action shotguns, and pistols. Their alleged target was a foreign national residing in the upscale Cantonments area.

In response to the intelligence, a police team led by ASP Richard Beriko and ASP Emmanuel Doe Yevoo was deployed to monitor the suspects.

At around 8:00 p.m., the armed men left their hotel in a Toyota Yaris and began moving toward their target. The police team followed them discreetly, but the suspects eventually spotted them and opened fire.

In the gun battle that followed, General Sergeant Samuel Akocha was shot in the left leg and right armpit. Police officers returned fire, killing two of the suspects on the spot. The remaining three managed to escape, taking their weapons with them.

A search on the bodies of the dead suspects revealed two loaded pump-action guns, live cartridges, three iPhones, talismans, and four rings believed to be for spiritual protection.

The injured officer and suspects were rushed to the Police Hospital. The suspects were declared dead on arrival, while Sgt. Akocha is still receiving treatment and is said to be responding well.

The bodies of the two deceased suspects have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Meanwhile, police have launched a full-scale manhunt for the three fugitives.

Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and have assured citizens of their continued commitment to keeping Accra safe and bringing the remaining suspects to justice.
